The takedowns class has been brutal on my arms. For some reason it causes my arms to ache something feirce!!!! I think it is from the impact after being taken down. It's not that i am landing wrong but the constant pounding and tightening of my arms has cause my biceps to just get really inflamed and radiat pain throughout my whole arms. Rapidly flexing/tightening makes the class extremely difficult to get through.
Takedown Class
The class though is great. On Friday we covered the Russion 2 on 1 control. It's a great technique and one that might be able to be utilized pretty easily against someone who grabs your head. I will have to look for this during sharkies.
Speaking of sharkies, during the drill I managed to tweak my left knee again...not as bad this time. A big guy shot in on me, got a hold of my left leg and I went into the diamond stretch position to defend. I managed to avoid the takedown but in the process it just kind of reminded my knee that it isn't fully healed (and it may never fully heal?). So I remain in the middle and set up a really good double leg on Dan Bo who reacts by bring his hands out in front really quickly and essentially punched me in my left eye. I finished the takedown but was seeing double out of that eye so I sat out the rest of the drill.
No GI Class
Before class I woke up and went for a jog. I did a 3 minute walk to warmup and then did 60 seconds jog followed by 90 seconds walking. I did this for 20 minutes.
Class covered the Wilson Reis guard pass where you get a deep underhook while in guard, get your opponent on their hip and switch your hips to break their guard and pass. It's a risking guard pass but and effective one. The key is staying tight so they can't move to attack for a triangle or omoplata.
We also covered the brabo choke and escapes/defense for the brabo. I didn't stick around for open mat...I had things to attend to, plus my arms were still bugging me.
I am wondering if doing more pullups and curls might help with my arms. Maybe some creatine also. Not sure really what would help though, it's not really lactic acid buildup but rather rapid flexing that causes the pain...An odd ailment to deal with!!!
